Arch: Rafael Vinoly Architects Type: Mixed, Mall, Residential, Offices
--
The old Power Station on Londons Southside of the Thames at Westside, has been
subject to a discussion, design and proposals for a long time.
Clearly, developers and designers, city and public want to make use of the unique
chance to transform Battersea Power Station (BPS) to an outstanding example of
zero-carbon architecture. As a new piece of urban land, BPS will offer spaces of a broad
variety as offices, residences, retail spaces and as well incorporate the existing power
station as a structure for public access. The Riverside Front will become a public space
that could become a similar quality space as Bankside opposite the City.
The spectacular Energy generating tower has been scrapped as Londons Mayor has
vetoed against the propsal in 2009. However it can maintain as a vision for new concepts
anywhere in the world for the very urgent need to reduce the carbon footprint of human
activity. We will keep you up to date on this part of London when new material is
revealed.
