Mirrors ( heliostats ) lead 95% of sun´s radiation into giant receiver at the plants core. Molten Salt Tanks are heated to 900 C, react with steam and power the turbines of the plant.
The novelty of this plant is that energy can be released up to 15 hours after sunset, which means that Gemasol Power Plant is able to generate energy overnight.
The Plant can therefore guarantee energy supply for approximately 270 days per year, due to the regular sunshine in Southern Spain.
Total Energy production is estimated at 110 Gwh/year and will be able to power 25,000 homes in Andalucia.
The project is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi´s energy company Masdar and Spain´s Torresol Energy / SENER.
